Tips On How To Successfully Train Your Dog

There are lots of tips that can help prepare a dog to go to a show. This article will help you learn the ins and outs of training your dog to be best in show.

Unless you offer a distraction or stimulus, your dog will probably focus exclusively on a single thing. After you do this enough times, it will become easier for you to get your dog’s attention. The dog will look for your signals.

Do not reinforce any negative behaviors accidentally. This means that you should never reward your dog, with treats or attention, for doing something you’re trying to train it out of. For instance, don’t pat your dog on the head if it’s jumping up on you.

Training a dog to roll over is a pretty simple task, just make sure to have a few treats handy! The first step is to get the dog to lay down. Next, hold a treat near the floor on one side of his head, slowly bring the treat up and over the dogs head to the other side. Ideally, your dog will use his nose to follow the treat, rolling his whole body in the process. Whenever you dog does roll over, actually say the words, “roll over.” Continue to do this until your dog actually rolls over whenever you say the words without using the treat. This may take time, so don’t become frustrated.

As you train dogs, it is necessary to utilize a consistent tone and volume when giving commands. The dog will know you’re telling them what to do that way. It will also let the dog know the difference between an angry voice, a happy voice and an authoritative voice.

“Leave it” is a very important command that teaches your dog to drop whatever it is holding. This should be the first command you teach. It ensures they don’t eat food they shouldn’t, chew on items not intended to be chewed on or even pick up dangerous or poisonous items in their mouth.

If you say ‘no’, your dog should understand that it does not need a response. When training your dog, you’ll have to find a way to give positive reinforcement. Saying the word “no” will not aid in the training of your dog. Every dog and every situation is different. This means that their training must be tailored accordingly.

Use positive reinforcements when training your dog. Praise your dog when he deserves it, and give him treats to show that you are pleased. You should never yell at your dog, or physically harm them. This is not a particularly effective form of training. Stay positive but stand your ground when training your dog.

Having a successful show dog is nice for owner and pet. The tips shared here can lead you in the right direction. Play around with the different methods and find the ones that work for you.
