Learning How To Train A New Puppy

If you want to raise a show dog, you must have the following tips and guidance close at hand. You will learn what you must do to train your dog to show.

Crate training your new puppy is most effective when you take small steps. Once he is comfortable walking in and out of the crate, try quietly closing the door and offering him a biscuit through the wires. Gradually increase the amount of time your dog spends in the crate, starting with just a few seconds. If you notice the animal becoming tense or confused, you are probably proceeding too quickly.

When you correct your dog verbally, ensure your corrections are direct and short. Don’t scream and yell and throw a fit. Say no and give them a command to do the right thing. The tone of your voice should let them know you are serious about the command you are making.

You should have a specific feeding pattern for your dog. Train your dog to understand that the food bowl will be removed 10-15 minutes after you have fed him. This will help get him on a schedule. Your dog will soon become accustomed to his feeding schedule and eat quickly.

Use control to acknowledge positive behavior while training. If your dog follows a training command properly, then it is acceptable to reward the behavior to a calm animal. You might be happy about the progress your dog has made but you need to quell your excitment. Try to stay as calm as possible during your canine training session.

Whenever you want your dog to complete a task, you must reward it. They have to know that doing the right thing brings a happy ending. Rewarding good behavior and not bad behavior will help your dog to learn the difference between the two.

Try to get your dog on a regular feeding schedule. By establishing a regular potty-time every day, you will get your dog in the habit of doing his business at the same time daily. Then he will become practiced at waiting until the right time.

Start your puppy training with something that will be easy for him to learn. This will help you to see the progress you are making, regardless of how small or slow it is. It will also ensure that your dog truly comprehends each step of the training process. Doing this will give you better results in your training.

Your dog requires at least one hour of exercise every day. Without adequate exercise, your dog will find it difficult to focus during your training sessions. An exercised dog is a happy and responsive dog.

It is vital that the dog’s leash remain loose when you are trying to train it to walk on a leash. When dogs go on walks, they frequently want to explore all the new sights and sounds. This eagerness can cause them to pull against the leash if it’s held too tightly. Some owners do not encourage this behavior and instead, allow some slack on the leash.

Your dog can only be as successful and you are dedicated in training them. The tips you just read will help you train an obedient show dog. Though each dog owner will have their own approach, it is hoped that you can better train your canine through them.
